Co-founding board member and Director of Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) England, set up as a community interest company in lockdown 2020, to offer a voice for current, new and prospective electric vehicle drivers and accelerate the transition to an electric England. As well as being spokesperson for EVA England, I manage the communications strategy and media relations, as well as running EVA England's social media channels.

Business development / Innovation: Secured funding for and project managed the ground breaking LCT Detection project, with Western Power Distribution and IBM, using cognitive analytics to identify previously unknown EVs and solar panels on the Low Voltage network to support DNO network planning. Secured funding for Skyline with SSEN and UKPN, to develop an early notification system of EV demand to support DNO network planning and investment decisions.

Stakeholder engagement: Responsible for stakeholder engagement across Government (BEIS, OZEV), Ofgem and industry, and communications for Flexr, the electricity network data sharing service (stakeholder analyses, communications strategy and engagement). Regular engagement with EV and energy start-ups and innovators.

Bid management: Responsible for management and successful submission of the 2020 Flexr Network Innovation Competition bid into Ofgem, led by Northern Powergrid with partner support of five of the six GB Distribution Network Operators.

Specialist in customer engagement, partnership brokering, project and stakeholder management, and new business development, with a flair for strategic marketing. Understanding the regulatory framework, and compliance to that framework, is a common cross-cutting theme in all of the work with which I am involved. 

Immersed in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, developing and delivering project platforms to trial technology that will alleviate the inevitable stress on electricity networks, when EVs become commonplace on UK roads. 

Project manager for the Smart EV project with SSEN, engaging across industry to develop a standard mechanism to facilitate controlled EV charging.

Responsible for customer behavioural research, marketing and PR, and customer recruitment support for WPD £5.8 million Electric Nation (CarConnect) project - recruiting 500-700 EV drivers, to develop a network assessment tool and other key outputs to enable DNOs to manage EVs on their electricity networks.

Initiated and co-founded the EV Network Group (which became the Government supported EV Energy Taskforce) - bringing together UK Government (OLEV), consumers, automotive OEMs and utilities to address network barriers to EV uptake. 

My Electric Avenue - responsible for all aspects of customer engagement, communications, marketing and dissemination. Exceeded customer engagement project deliverables, thanks to a brilliant project partnership team and massively successful engagement and marketing strategy.

In more general terms, common themes of my day-to-day work are stakeholder management and engagement, with a focus on smart grids, resource management within project task portfolio; proposal and tender writing, client liaison, new business development, budget management and project reporting.

Project development and management in the energy and environmental technologies sector, to address market failures and deliver sustainable economic benefit to England's Northwest. 

Examples of project achievements:

 - Power from the Mersey: Feasibility Study - £3.5million - private / public sector flagship tidal energy project with Peel Energy, to ultimately harness the tidal energy from the Mersey Estuary, supplying 260,000 homes with reliable, renewable energy

 - Energy Innovation Centre - £2million - partnership project with EA Technology and Distribution Network Operators to stimulate and fund innovative energy technologies through to commercialisation

Sector Development Manager - Energy & Environmental Technologies

Gill is an electric vehicle (EV) market and communications specialist. Gill has an extensive EV and energy industry and community network spanning decades. She has 25 years’ business development and grant funding portfolio experience across sustainable energy, utility, and environmental technologies sectors, including eight years working on electric vehicle-grid integration projects in a consultancy capacity. 

Since 2012, she has focused her energy on adding value to clients across emobility, energy networks, insurance, leasing, policy and communications.

In April 2021 Gill was celebrated as one of the Top Women in EV for Campaigns and Policy, and was voted as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability in 2020. In June 2022, Gill was selected as one of Insider’s EV Industry Power Players – one of 30 leaders driving the global electric vehicle revolution. Gill was winner of the Women in Insurance Trailblazer Award 2022 for her work in EV at Allianz.

Proud to enter the GreenFleet 100 Most Influential list in 2023, and make a return in 2024!

Media trained, Gill enjoys fairly regular appearances on radio (BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, You and Yours, LBC Radio, Radio 5 Live), with a little television thrown in for good measure (Countryfile). All in the spirit of advocating for EV uptake. 

Gill has written for a variety of media channels, with guest blogs featured on Fully Charged Show, Green Car Guide, and Company Car Today amongst others. She has been quoted in The Times, The Sunday Times, Telegraph, Good Housekeeping, Autocar, and across EV and trade publications. Q3 2020 saw Gill cited as Twitter’s number three top global EV influencer.

In February 2019, Gill founded EVclicks – a free online EV image library for use by schools, communities, projects and businesses in aid of the transition to zero emission transport.

During lockdown in 2020, Gill co-founded Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) England community interest company, which offers a voice to electric car drivers in England. An advocate for electric vehicles since 2012, Gill is an EV driver and smart charger.
